LESSON 01 · BEGINNER · SHORT LESSON
Introduction to Hydraulics
Hydraulics transfers energy through a liquid. The pump supplies flow; load and resistance to flow determine pressure.
What is happening technically?
Oil travels from the tank through the pump and valve to the actuator, then returns to the tank through the return line. Energy losses heat the oil.
In practice
A lifting cylinder may not move if the directional valve blocks the flow, even while the pump is running.
Educational diagram only; not a manufacturing or safety circuit. The pilot line illustrates the line style only.
Symptom → check → solution
If movement, pressure or temperature changes, first identify the conditions in which the symptom occurs. Record existing gauge readings. Base maintenance or circuit examination on causes confirmed by measurements.
